What is MHBP?

Milwaukee Healthy Beginnings Project (MBHP) promotes access to necessary prenatal infant services to ALL women, their infants and families in the project area. As of June 1, 2009, the Project area covers seven (7) zip codes within the Milwaukee area -  53206, 53208, 53209, 53210, 53212, 53216, and 53218. With special emphasis on African-American and Latino women, the goal of the project is to reach women of childbearing age, pregnant women and their infants, support networks that influence these families, and health providers in and outside the project are. We can give a child a healthy start by helping women and their families in the following ways:

  • Easy access to services that are community driven

  • Increasing early Prenatal Care for pregnant women

  • Providing Culturally Sensitive and Family centered care

  • Promoting public awareness of infant mortality and its contributing factors

  • Making transportation and child care services available to women who want to receive services and/ or participate in MHBP activities.

  • Making the populations we serve an integral part in the decision making process

How Does MHBP Work for Me?

MHBP is accessible for all women and their infants because it is based in the heart of the community.

How can MHBP help Me?

MHBP offers an array of services or makes referrals to help you in the following areas:

  • Prenatal Care: Offers Medical care during pregnancy from conception to delivery

  • Family Planning: Providing education and information about abstinence, contraceptives, or other forms of pregnancy prevention.

  • Child Care Services: Providing child care for infants/ children of clients through a licensed child care provider at MHBP meetings

  • Health Education: Providing Education and information about preventive health care and any other areas of interest or concern. Providing educational sessions to youth and adults in the community around health and healthy lifestyles.

  • Infant Health Care: Refers infants for physical check-ups by medical professionals.

  • Nutrition Education: Refers for various kinds of nutritional services with may include proper diet for pregnant women, diabetic counseling, heart healthy counseling, exercise programs, etc.

  • Interpreter Services: Makes sure proper language interpretation occurs for clients who do not have English as a primary language.

  • Immunizations: Ensures your baby has all the proper immunizations for his/ her age.

  • Outreach/ Home Visiting: Reaches out to at risk or hard to reach clients through home visiting or other scheduled locations to provide helpful information and motivation for accessing needed services.

  • Transportation: Provides transportation for clients for MHBP meetings.

  • Referrals: If MHBP does not offer the services you need, we will refer you to the appropriate health and/or social services as identified by assessment or your request.

  • Case Management Services: All clients are assessed for services and appropriate referrals are made. Additionally we provide services to at risk populations in the community.
